History

Andhra Pradesh Sheep & Goat Development Cooperative Federation Ltd. (AP Sheep Fed) is a state-level cooperative institution established to promote sustainable sheep and goat rearing, improve livestock productivity, and enhance the livelihoods of rural shepherd communities in Andhra Pradesh.

The Federation was first registered under the A.P. Cooperative Societies Act, VII of 1964 on 06 July 1994, with its headquarters at Hyderabad.

After the bifurcation of the state, Andhra Pradesh Sheep and Goat Development Cooperative Federation (APSGDCFL) Ltd. was re-registered on 08 August 2014 with Registration No. 1/AP/2014, and its headquarters was shifted to Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, to continue its dedicated services for sheep and goat development in the state.

Today, the Federation supports 2,906 Primary Sheep Breeders Cooperative Societies across villages, with a strong membership base of over 1.02 lakh shepherd families. It also works through 13 District Sheep Breeders Cooperative Unions to implement development programs at the district level.

Our Role in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh has one of the largest livestock populations in India, ranking 2nd in sheep population, 11th in goat population, and 4th in meat production nationally. Sheep rearing plays a crucial role in the livelihoods of rural families, especially in drought-prone and low-rainfall regions.

Schemes & Initiatives for Shepherd Community

AP Sheep Fed is implementing the following schemes for the welfare of the shepherd community in the state:

  • NCDC Sheep Loans for Sheep Society Members with 3% interest subvention and 20% subsidy
  • Group Lending Loans for Society Members at 7.5% interest rate through the Federation
  • National Livestock Mission (NLM) Scheme for eligible entrepreneurs through the Animal Husbandry Department
  • Breeding Ram Shows and exchange of quality Breeding Rams
  • Convergence of Small Ruminant Development Activities for improved service delivery
